EnglishUSA members include intensive English, pathway and/or ESL support programs. These programs may be independent programs (or multi-site) often located in large cities or programs on university, college or community college campuses.

The U.S. government uses the term "English language training program" which is synonymous with the following:

  • ESL (English as a second language) program
  • IEP (Intensive English Program)
  • ELI (English Language Institute)
  • ELC (English Language Center)

Some programs are called "institutes" or "centers" or "programs" or they have a name such as Intensive Language Center. These terms are usually interchangeable and can be located on private or institution-governed sites. All programs often offer a variety of options.
